Good thing I remembered it this morning! Well, my Mom had to ring me and remind me, really. There’s a national drill today – something at a scale I don’t remember ever being done before. They’re going to sound the sirens at 11 AM today and we’re all expected to play along and, ummmm, seek shelter or something. For ten minutes, apparently.
I don’t know why they’re still using the old system. I was reading in the paper the other day that they’re about to install a new state-of-the-art alert-by-cellphone system. Apparently, when they detect a rocket launch towards an area in Israel, they will call every cellphone in that area, warning people to take cover. They can actually pinpoint to the scale of a single building. Pretty amazing, really, when you think about it. That’s one call you don’t want to get. Or actually, one call you don’t want to miss, if and when it comes to that.
“Good morning! This is a recorded message. A launch has been detected and a kassam rocket is headed towards your bedroom. Please evacuate the premises immediately. Impact in 10, 9, 8…”
Pretty cool, I think. I’m not sure it’s going to be a voice message though. They could just be texting you. Either way, what fun, to get such a message with your morning coffee. You can even set a ringtone for the Homefront command! So much better than the sirens wailing. Now, which would be your ringtone of choice for a rocket attack?
