Our Trip to the US - Change of Plans

We’re still going! Very much so, even, but we’re thinking about making some changes. Apparently, return flights where you fly to and back from the same destination are much cheaper than one-ways. That means that flying to Tucson from London costs over $800 a ticket, just one way. A return (two ways) ticket from London to LA and back costs under $650…. I have no idea why, but spending hours at Kayak.com has convinced us that we need to fly to LA, make a round trip of the West and get back to LA for our flight back to London (and then Israel).

That means adding a tour through Arizona and Nevada that will include at the very least the Grand Canyon National Park, and potentially Zion and Bryce too. It also means spending a few days in Las Vegas! All in all, a lot more driving, but we think this is going to be as much fun, if not more so, than the previous plan.

Have a great trip! I made aliyah from the US in April and currently live in the Krayot, but my husband and I hope to move to the Pardes Hana/Karkur area in May. Anything you can tell us in general about life there? I love your blog!

Well, I guess I get to be the first to say welcome to Pardes Hana ;)

It’s a small town here, peaceful and lacking in infrastructure (although improving gradually, over the years - the current Head of Mo’aza is real good with it).

This place has become a magnet for what I guess you would call “spiritual” people. If you’re looking for art, meditation, spiritual stuff, this is the new Mecca for it, I’m told. It also means a great selection of “alternative” schools. I don’t know many kids who go to a regular school here anymore. It’s either the democratic school, the Jewish-Arab school, the anthroposophic school, you name it.

Will you be renting here? Renting has become very expensive over the past year. Supply and demand issues, with so many families moving over. If you can buy here, that would probably be a good investment.

Let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like to know. With any luck, we’ll be in the States in May, but maybe we can hook up after we return!
