My DH just drove away with the cute little dog, to get her to the pound. She was here for 24 hours and we decided we can’t keep her with us any longer. Basically, we don’t want to adopt a dog at this point, for various reasons. The house is way too small and overcrowded as it is, with two lively boys and three cats. I firmly believe that adopting an animal is a major commitment, and not something to be pushed into by circumstances.
The cats were way too stressed by her presence, and spent the entire morning staying high up on their shelves. One of them started vomiting, and I suspect it’s the stress. The dog itself, while happy to be around people, needed tons of attention. Very energetic little pup – so cute, but not something I can fit into my life right now.
It was a little heartbreaking, yes, but I felt it was the right thing to do for all concerned, cats, dog and us, to take her to the local pound. Unfortunately, there are no shelters with room in the area. I have been to the local pound, and it’s clean, the dogs are well fed and receive medical care, and the staff seemed to be caring enough. I really hope a previous owner may turn up looking for her. And if not, they do put up the dogs for adoption after 10 days. Best of luck little doggie! I hope I did the right thing, and that this is better than going on wandering the streets, hungry and thirsty and in danger.
Sigh. I wish people wouldn’t let their pets breed and create this horrible problem that we have in Israel, of stray cats and dogs. It’s a universal issue, so if anyone’s reading this and has a cat or a dog that are not neutered, do them a huge favor, and call your vet to schedule an appointment. Not a dog expert here, but I think my article on spaying and neutering cats may give anyone opposing neutering some food for thought.

Good for you, though. I hope he finds a home soon.
Are there really people opposed to neutering? I had no idea! LOL! Humphrey already has his appointment!

That’s excellent! I wish I could say opposing neutering is strictly a local issue
Alas, on our forums on thecatsite.com, we get people all the time that have to be educated about why they shouldn’t be breeding their cats. Can sure get frustrating at times!
