Geography Lessons

We’re getting ready to the big trip next month! I am actually writing an online guide in Hebrew about San Diego (סן דייגו למטייל) and so looking forward to seeing everything for real.

While we’re not a homeschooling family, we do tend to teach the kids a lot at home. They are both very curious, and keep asking questions, so it’s really easy. Anyway, after talking to the kids about the weather, Ron tried to convery the gist of it to his Dad:

“Daddy, do you know how big storms happen? A butterfly bats its wings in America, and a hurricane is created across the world in the US.”

I guess we need to work on where the US is exactly ;)

As an Atmospheric Scientist, I think I can help clear this up. I believe it’s actually the butterflies in Japan that cause hurricanes in the US. The butterflies in America cause ice storms in Russia and the butterflies flapping their wings in Australia make beautiful weather in the Mediterranean. There must be a lot of butterflies in Australia. :)

Enjoy the trip and stay safe! I hear you will get a chance to see Budd. Do pass on my regards.

Oh, do stay clear of the butterflies!
