My Hat is Off for Single Moms

I don’t know how you do this in the long run. These two and a half weeks with IsraeliDad away on his army duties are enough to show me just how hard it is. And I’m lucky enough to be able to talk to him on the phone daily and we even get the occasional short visit.

Still, there are so many daily chores that are “his territory” and I find myself struggling with. I’m sorry if it sounds too old-fashioned, but I do prefer to let him deal with the car, fixing stuff around the house, taking care of the bills and the book keeping and a myriad of other tasks which involve dealing with the outside world.

Yesterday was a real challenge for me, having to drive our Ron not just to his usual after-school activities, but all the way to Tel Aviv to see his eye specialist. The good news is that his eye problems are gone. His diligence and self discipline paid off big time and those boring daily eye exercise sessions fixed everything. We need to come for a check-up in a couple of months, but right now, his eyes are in perfect shape.

The bad news is that my eyes are not doing as well ;) I’m ok during the day, but once it gets dark, I just don’t see very well. Driving back home in the dark was an absolute nightmare. I had to drive extremely slowly, sticking to the right lane. Took me two hours to get back home (compared to just one hour to get there). Normally, I’d have let IsraeliDad do the driving, but single Moms don’t have too many options… Maybe I should have taken the train, but I knew Ron would be too tired and it was a miserably cold night, so I prefered to let him sleep on the way back home.

Anyway, back safe home now. Now, I really really hope Mr Hanniye there will agree to some ceasefire initiative, I don’t care which one, and make them send my husband back home. Selfish of me, I know – I need him here.

Horribly cold. :) I’ve been hearing it in Jerusalem all week and I just don’t see it. I think it’s beautiful and tropical and warm like spring in Israel right now!!

Also, I should send you an email, as I ended up decided to head home a little early. My other half needs me too.

You should see an eye specialist about your problems with seeing in the dark.

Kate, I guess we won’t be seeing Ceasaria together this time around ;) Maybe when you and your husband come for a longer visit.

Don, I have seen a specialist a few months ago. Turns out I actually have a cataract developing – need to go again soon to see how fast it’s getting along, but will probably need surgery for it in the not too distant future. Other than that, I suspect my prescription has changed and I just need a new pair of glasses, I guess.
