Anxious Wife Day

IsraeliDad has been grabbed by the IDF for his reserve duties in this stupid war a couple of days ago. He’s out there, down in the south, and already had one rocket land a bit too close for my comfort.

Yes, I know things are much much worse off in Gaza. I wouldn’t trade places with anyone living there for a second. But you’ll have to excuse me as it’s my husband I am worried about today.

If anyone in the Hamas is reading this, please do read my previous post with the recipe I gave for you stopping this war. It’s actually amazing, how much this is in the hands of the Hamas. If they want to, and are willing to let go of their pride issues, this can be over within a day. Not out of Israel’s choice either, as I suspect our politicians would prefer to have a few more days of open fighting to achieve some more military goals.

So, assuming Hamas knows fully well that they have the key to ending the current round of violence, why don’t they use that and put an end to the war? I can think of several reasons:

1. They are gaining in popularity as the struggle continues. They prefer their own short-term political gain over the interests of the Palestinians living in Gaza.

2. They really do believe that Israeli civilians can’t handle the kassam attacks and will pressure our government to stop the war. Boy, are they wrong there if they think that. The more they shoot, the more support goes to our government from the people. And let’s face it, kassams may be expensive to live with (in terms of economical damage to businesses) but they are not that scary. Nothing compared to what Gazans have to live with these days, under constant F-16 bombings.

3. They are influenced by their own internal dynamics of national pride and religious fanaticism.

I guess it may be a combination of all three. How else to explain the continued senseless shooting of makeshift little rockets on civilian settlements in Israel?

Anyway, I hope they get back to their senses at some point. The sooner the better.

Cannot find the words to help, just sending you a hug from Lisboa and wishing that peace will come back soon. I wish God could go into the heart of the people who caused this and made them think right. My simpathy to you all.

Yeah, from me too. May it end soon and someday – soon – there be some form of peace.
