Some Israeli Music in English

Listening to the radio, I realized some of the nicest songs recently are in English, or at least contain parts in English. I thought it might be nice to share them here.

The first one is by a Jerusalem singer and his band, Nadav Avidan and the Mojos. The song is entirely in English and honestly, doesn’t sound Israeli at all, but I really like it, so wanted to share -

Next is one by the Nechama Girls (HaBanot Nechama). It’s half English half Hebrew and called “So Far”. I’m sure you can enjoy it all, no matter which language you speak, because they have this amazing vocal style:

The last one is called “An Indian Love Song” and while it’s mostly in Hebrew, it has big chunks in English. I couldn’t find the original clip (not that I ever watched it), but you can listen to the song here:

I absolutely love this song, and obviously I am not the only one, since it’s at the top of the charts here. I think that it’s more than the unique tune, it’s the text too. She’s singing about a love affair she’s had with a native American, called Miguel. She’s back in Israel, back to the tough life here, and her former lover, Miguel calls her on the phone in the middle of the night, suggesting that she comes back to him. The song pretty much contrasts the fantasy life affair in the jungle (South America, I think?), the nights spent in the tipi, fishing by the river, everything peaceful and soothing, with the harsh living in Israel, the dry heat, war and taxes, she she so aptly sums it up, saying she couldn’t begin to explain it all to her Miguel…

Hope I’m not talking too much, just enjoy the music :)

You know, I usually listen when I’m on the computer. Here’s the link to my favorite radio station – Galgalatz:

It has no “commercial” commercials, just government ones, being a military radio station. It’s got a playlist that works well for me and the songs above are frequently on it.

Hi, thanks for posting these great songs. I live in Brazil, and work from home. I Listen to galgalatz 24/7. actually since 2007.
i’m learning Hebrew and listening to Galgalatz helps me a lot!

I love a song called Tzion. (ki mi tzion tetse et a Torah…. ki mi tzion tetse et a ahava…. be ertz chadashá). I read the singer’s name on Galgalatz charts, 2007, I guess. But now I can’t remember his name.
Do you know which song I’m talking about?
    Thanks
    Lilian

I ran a quick Google search and it’s a song by Evyatar Banai and Yonatan Razel. Here’s a link to the song on Youtube (just the song – not the video):
