The San Diego and Area Page

This page covers our stay in San Diego and the region -

Sightseeing:

San Diego Zoo - we might the safari zoo (wild animal park) , as most tours are for older kids, but not sure yet, need to get into this. There is a playground in the zoo too (means another 2 hours to spend there) and generally LOTS to see, so should consider a two days pass.

Spring hours: 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (grounds close at 6 p.m.) $24.50 for adults $16.50 for kids.
There are several passes, deals and such available here. Must look there before we decide on tickets.

Sea World - this one should be a hit with our kids and take a full day. Looking into booking a lunch with Shamu.

Open Daily.$59.00 per adult and $49.00 per kids - should book online for some discounts/benefits.

Lego Land - should be very good for our kids.

Open daily except: 15 April-21 May closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. $59.95 per adult and $49.95 per kid.

Paddleboats t Mission Bay - Can be a nice way to spend an easy morning/afternoon with the kids, with our own boat going near the sea lions and pelicans. The kids would enjoy it and it’s only $20 an hour per boat.

Balboa Park - just walking in the park and looking around. Inside the park there are 13 museums/attractions, including the zoo.

Admittance to the Park itself is free, as is the Botanical Building and all the gardens.

USS Midway - Aircraft carrier visit - comes highly recommended.

open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m., daily. $17 adults $9 Youth (ages 6-17)

San Diego Air & Space Museum - looks great for us and the kids, I just hope they keep the star trek exhibition until then as well! Located in Balboa park.

Adults $15 - Kids 6-11 $6 - under 6 go in for free. 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Reuben H. Fleet Science Center - looks like a great place with tons of attractions including an IMAX and so much more. Really have to go to this one. Located in Balboa park.

Galleries + 2 IMAX Films $16.50 Adults and $13.75 Juniors (3-12 yrs). Open 9:30 am Close 5:00 pm except for - Fridays Open 9:30 am-9:00 pm; Saturdays Open 9:30 am-8:00 pm;
Sunday Open 9:30 am-6:00 pm

San Diego Model Railroad Museum - this one is an absolute must for us. Located in Balboa park.

Tue. - Fri. 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Closed Monday Sat. and Sun. 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Adults - $6.00 Children under 15 - FREE

San Diego Natural History Museum - we usually love those, but I seriously doubt that we’ll get to it, unless we have tons of free time in SD. Maybe if we get the balboa park passport. I suspect we might go in for the movies mainly (they have giant screen nature movies - and the kids love “going to the movies”).

Daily 10 AM – 5 PM - Adult $9.00 - Child (3–12) $4.00

Museum of San Diego History - this one will probably be of interest to us, the parents, but not so much for the kids. They do have an interactive exhibition for kids, so this one will be under the “maybe” category. Located in Balboa park.

Daily, 10am – 5pm. $2 children ages 6-17, Free children under 6 - $5 Adults

San Diego Beaches, the waterfront and the Cove - I don’t think we’ll go, since we have our nice little warm Mediterranean back here, and taking the kids to the beach, while away from home, could turn out to be quite complicated.

The Casa or Children’s Beach

Boomers Park - a bit pricey but will definitely make the kids happy, so an option for an easy day. Pay by rides - $2-$10 a ride or so.

On the way to LA -

Quail Botanical Gardens come recommended at Encinitas, California

9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. $10 per adult - $5.00 per child. Free admission on the first Tuesday of every month!
